Ready, Set, Tone!

Have you ever wondered if your skin was completely clean after wash time? I sure have! There’s been quite a few times I felt like I was on top of my skincare routine but still suffered from breakouts. Breakouts can occur for a number of reasons like stress, environmental changes, hormones and more. One of the most common causes is that we simply aren’t cleaning thoroughly enough to unclog those pores. I had no idea how much dirt I was leaving behind until I started using a toner. It was shocking!

Foundations for Dark Skin

 photo IMG_20140323_031842.jpg

It’s no secret I love makeup and all things beauty. It’s just who I am! But the biggest reason behind Fancieland was to be a reference for women who looked like me. There are millions of beauty bloggers all over the world but there are so little who really understand the needs of women of color. Especially those of us with a little bit more pigment. It’s like we get overlooked in the beauty world. Not anymore! When I first started wearing makeup I struggled picking out foundations so I hope my foundation collection will help ladies like me find that perfect shade.

The Art of Co-Washing

 photo IMG_20140311_020121.jpg

It’s been so long since I’ve done a hair post! I’m still on my journey to waist length and I must say things are going pretty darn well. At the moment, I’m about 3-5 inches away so fingers (and toes) crossed I hit my goal by fall! Since I’ve embarked on my hair journey I’ve learned a lot of different techniques to nourish and protect my precious strands. One of my favorites has been co-washing. It works wonders for keeping my hair moisturized and frizz free!

Grow Your Lashes and Brows Naturally!

For years women have been pouring castor oil onto their luscious locks for it’s excellent healthy hair growth properties. Castor oil has been proven to promote healthier and thicker hair growth so it’s no surprise beauties started putting the wonder oil on their brows and lashes too! I’ve been using castor oil on my lashes and brows for the past couple of months and I definitely can spot the difference! My brows have gotten slightly longer and much thicker. I’ve always had barely there brows and now I know how to effectively grow them out! It works so well my mom has even taken notice. She was shocked by how much fuller my brows had gotten so quickly. I also noticed a dramatic change in my lashes. I’ve been wearing individual lash extensions for a few years now and when I remove them I end up taking off some of my natural lashes as well. After a while, this left my lashes a bit sparse and very short. My lashes have gotten considerably thicker and much longer since I’ve laid off the lash extensions and got on the castor oil train. If you don’t believe me  try it for yourself! Your brows and lashes will certainly thank you for it!

Super Quick Lip Exfoliation Routine

The secret to soft lips isn’t just a super lush lip balm or vaseline.  You have to exfoliate too! There are tons of different ways that you can exfoliate your kissers. You could pick up a nice lip scrub somewhere or mix one up at home but what happens when you don’t have your scrub or the ingredients to make one? Do you go out with dry skin covering those beautiful lips? Absolutely not! After you get done washing your face take your warm wash rag and gentle rub all the dead skin from your lips. It’s quick, easy and you don’t need anything outside of your normal morning routine! No mixing or cabinet searching needed! I did it this morning and it worked fantastically! My lips felt just as great as they do after using a homemade scrub. You should add it to your morning routine and see how great your lips will feel afterwards. Don’t forget to follow up with a good moisturizing balm when you’re done to protect that new, fresh layer of lips!

Length Check and Hair Regimen

image

Hello ladies! It’s been a little while since I’ve made a hair post but I’m back to share my recent length check and regimen. It has been extremely hot here in Michigan so I haven’t been wearing my hair out or using heat much but I was interested in doing a quick flat iron to see how my hair journey was coming along. I’m super elated to have finally hit bra strap length again after so many years of being stuck around shoulder length. The journey wasn’t easy but it wasn’t difficult either. Retaining length is something everyone can do! All you need to get started is a nice regimen. Here’s how I care for my hair:

  • Wash with sulfate free shampoo once a week
  • Deep condition with either a moisturizing or protein conditioner (alternate each wash), olive oil, castor oil and honey weekly
  • Moisturize and seal with olive oil and castor oil nightly

It’s pretty simple but it really works! Along with my regimen, I also like to protective style, cowash, air dry and sometimes wear extensions. All of this has turned my hair around greatly in as little as one year. Not only did my hair go from shoulder length to bra strap length but it’s also much more softer, manageable and most importantly, healthier! I’m hoping that my regimen will continue to bring great results and push me to waist length by the end of next year. Fingers crossed! Do you have a hair regimen or goal? Feel free to share below!
